Brislington: A landlord wanted to turn a family home into a big shared house. The plan was to create a six-bedroom house for up to nine people. But there’s a problem with noise insulation.

Neighbors are worried. They’ve complained about the noise from the ongoing construction. About 50 locals objected to the plan, fearing future residents would be noisy too. They’re already seeing too many shared houses in the area.

Parking is another issue. Residents are concerned about the added pressure on parking spaces. On January 29, the development control committee decided to pause the application. They want more evidence about noise and how it affects the neighborhood.

Kevin Brennan, a local resident, spoke at the meeting. He expressed concern about losing a family home. The house used to be home to two adults and two kids. Now, it could house nine adults.

Some residents sent anonymous complaints. One mentioned the “terrible noise insulation” between the houses. Labour Councillor Katja Hornchen noted that many locals are worried about the number of shared houses. She mentioned troubling behavior in the area, which has made people feel unsafe.

The landlord didn’t attend the meeting to discuss the plans. One councillor pointed out that shared houses in other parts of Bristol have caused long-term residents to leave. This is partly due to how the council regulates landlords.

Green Councillor Guy Poultney shared similar concerns. He said many people in his ward have had to move because of too many shared houses. He wants to gather evidence to support residents’ claims about the noise and disturbances.
