Chase Terrace Academy locked down after a former student refused to leave, prompting police intervention. All students remained safe during event.
The ex-pupil wouldn’t leave, so the school initiated a lockdown and called Staffordshire Police. Police arrived quickly and removed the former student, who is no longer in the area. The school told parents that students were never in danger.
A boy named Harvey Willgoose died recently. He was 15 and stabbed at a Sheffield school on Monday, February 3rd, around noon – about 24 hours before the academy incident. This may have increased anxiety.
The headteacher, Nicola Mason, sent a letter explaining an ex-student refused to leave. As a safeguard, they locked the school, keeping students safe in classrooms to prevent escalation.
Mason stressed no students were at risk, as the problem stayed in the reception area. She said they acted proactively and wants parents to know kids’ safety comes first. She was present and knew there was no further threat.
The head said schools sought reassurance after the lockdown. During lockdowns, staff cannot answer calls but stay with students to avoid risks. Mason asked parents to call only for true emergencies because many parents called to check on them.
Mason stated they cannot warn about such events, as situations can change quickly. The school aimed to prevent danger and focused on student safety. She thanked everyone for understanding and mentioned Staffordshire Police might release a statement.
