Walsall: The future of the Walsall Arena and Arts Centre is up in the air. Recently, the regeneration portfolio holder hinted at plans to move the venue. This was shared during a Walsall Council cabinet meeting.

The arena, located in Leamore, is a beloved spot for music, dance, and comedy. It also hosts an annual pantomime that many look forward to each year. It’s set in a former school building on Hawbush Road, surrounded by homes.

Originally opened as the Forest Arts Centre in 2006, it was later renamed. The council hasn’t made any formal decisions about the future of the venue yet.

During the meeting, Councillor Adrian Andrew emphasized the need to revitalize the town centre. He mentioned that it’s not just about shopping anymore. The idea is to create a lively atmosphere both day and night.

He believes that bringing more people into the town will help improve safety. If the town is bustling with activity, it can help deter negative influences.

However, the council couldn’t clarify what this means for the current venue or when changes might happen. A spokesperson mentioned that the Walsall Town Centre Masterplan aims to make the facility more accessible and boost the local economy.

They assured that no decisions have been finalized yet. They will explore options for the current site as part of a broader feasibility study.
