A home in Shirley may become a dental surgery due to a local shortage of services. The proposal aims to improve access to dental care for residents.
Shirley: A home on Yoxall Road might be turned into a dental surgery. Planners say there’s an urgent need for more dental services in the area. Chris Rogers submitted the plan to Solihull Council last October.
The application comes from Shiraz Endodontic Practice, which already has a surgery on Warwick Road. Their planning agents, Lapworth Architects, noted that this new practice would fill a gap in local healthcare.
Research shows that residents face long waits and travel distances for dental care. NHS data confirms a shortage of dental services in the B90 postcode area.
The proposal suggests that converting the house would have little impact on local housing. Plans include a reception, waiting room, and two treatment rooms on the ground floor.
On the first floor, there would be two more treatment rooms, an X-ray room, a sterilizing room, a staff room, and a kitchen. The surgery would operate from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
The statement emphasizes that this dental practice would greatly benefit the community. They are asking Solihull Council for support.
A consultation is currently open, with comments due by February 26. To view the plans, search for application PL/2024/02455/PPFL on the Solihull Council website.
