Edinburgh: The UK is gearing up for some serious snow. Weather maps show when the next flurries will start. It looks like heavy rain and snow are on the way.

On Friday, January 24, parts of south-west England, the Midlands, and Wales could see 2 to 5mm of rain every hour starting at 6am. Meanwhile, the east coast of Scotland might get hit with 2cm of snow per hour, while the west coast and Highlands could face a whopping 10cm of rain per hour.

Northern England and Scotland are also in for 3cm of snow per hour, kicking off around midday. Wales and the south-west of England will likely see heavy flurries too. Snow could also make an appearance on Sunday, January 26, and into the early hours of Monday, January 27.

WXCharts has some interesting maps showing snow falling at about 3cm per hour just south of Edinburgh at midnight next Sunday. The Met Office has a forecast that suggests a shift to more changeable and unsettled weather starting January 23.

They also mentioned that rain and stronger winds are expected to roll in from the southwest on Thursday, making things wetter and windier by the weekend. The projections hint at a return to rain and showers, possibly with strong winds, for the rest of the month. There’s even a chance of weather warnings or a named storm before January wraps up.

On the bright side, temperatures should bounce back to near average or slightly above, though it might not feel that way at times.
