Birmingham courts have recently sentenced several fraudsters, including a builder and a catfish, for stealing from unsuspecting victims. Stay alert to avoid scams.
One of the worst was Adam Jones, a cowboy builder. He scammed people out of £1.5 million. He promised home improvements but delivered shoddy work. Many victims were left in financial trouble while he lived comfortably.
Then there’s Rajbinder Kaur, an ex-banker. She stole nearly £50,000 from her charity, Sikh Youth UK. Kaur used the money to pay off her debts and fund her lifestyle. She was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.
Sajad Hamid sold dangerous second-hand cars, putting lives at risk. He misadvertised them as safe. His wife, Aisah Rashid, helped him with the scam. Hamid got four years in jail, while Rashid received a suspended sentence.
Lastly, Sumaiya Khurram, a catfish, tricked her friend out of £90,000. She posed as a man in love and manipulated her friend for 20 months. Khurram was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
