A candle-lit vigil in Redditch honors a beloved dad shot by police, sparking questions about the use of lethal force during the tragic incident
Redditch: More than 200 people gathered to remember Marcus Meade, a dad of two, who was shot by police. The vigil took place on January 21, marking four weeks since his tragic death.
Marcus, 39, was involved in a standoff with police on Christmas Eve. He had a knife, and the situation lasted over six hours. It ended when police entered his home, and he was shot in the chest.
His family and friends were heartbroken as they lit candles and shared memories. They questioned why police had to use deadly force in this situation. It was a tough night for everyone there.
In an interview, his parents expressed their grief. They said, “This is a guy who’s not killing anybody. They murdered our son, and we want answers.” They highlighted his struggles with mental health and past encounters with police.
After the incident, the police referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. They are investigating what happened, but the police won’t comment while the probe is ongoing.
Interestingly, Marcus was once hailed a hero. He helped catch a teenage girl’s killer in Birmingham two decades ago. His bravery earned him a Local Hero award.
His loved ones described him as one of the kindest people you could meet. They remembered his selflessness and bravery, which were truly unmatched.
