Sunderland Council Warns Drivers About QR Code Parking Scam

Hey, watch out for parking scams in Sunderland! The city council warns people about fake QR codes. These are popping up on payment machines in the city. Someone lost £170 through this scam on the seafront.

The fake codes were on machines on Whitburn Road too. Crooks are using stickers that have fake QR codes. Scanning them takes you to a fake payment site. It looks real, but it steals your info. Your parking payment actually does not go through.

They removed the fake stickers already, but more machines could get targeted. You should only use the official RingGo app, don’t risk it.

The council wants you to be careful. Scammers are trying to trick drivers, and they don’t want you to lose money. Neither the city nor RingGo uses QR codes.

Use the app, website, or phone to pay. Report weird QR codes to the authorities using Parking@sunderland.gov.uk or call 0191 520 5550. Think you got scammed? Contact your bank right away and also report it to the police without delay, because they need to know.
