Birmingham: Millions are getting ready for Storm Eowyn. Weather maps are showing alarming red and black colors. Experts are calling it a “historic” storm. The Met Office has issued amber warnings for heavy rain and strong winds.

The amber warning covers central Scotland, northern England, Wales, and all of Northern Ireland. This warning is in effect from 6am to 9pm on Friday. But even if you’re not in the amber zone, yellow warnings are in place across the entire UK.

WXCharts shows wind speeds could soar from 46mph to over 90mph. The storm will start affecting people on Thursday, bringing heavy rain from the east. On Friday morning, expect wet and windy weather, with snow in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Wales and southwest England are also in for a soaking, with up to 60mm of rain possible. Northern Scotland has a snow warning from 3am to 12pm on Friday. Mike Silverstone from the Met Office warns of widespread disruption.

Storm Eowyn will hit Northern Ireland early Friday, then move northeast across Scotland. The strongest winds will be felt in Northern Ireland, southern and central Scotland, and northern England. Gusts could reach 90mph in exposed areas.

While the storm may weaken as it moves northeast, breezy conditions will stick around, especially in the north. Luckily, drier weather is expected for most, with showers replacing the heavy rain in higher areas.
