Two men were sentenced for threatening police with a gun in Solihull. They were caught in a parked Mercedes and later found with a firearm and ammunition.
Solihull: Two gunmen are now in jail after threatening police with a firearm. Andrew Beckett and Antony Briscoe were in a parked Mercedes on The Radleys. This happened early on February 19 last year.
Police noticed the car matched a description from a nearby incident. Briscoe, 37, got out when officers approached. But then Beckett, also 37, pulled out a handgun and threatened the officers.
The police quickly backed away, and the two men fled. Later, the Mercedes was found abandoned about a mile away. Police also discovered a handgun and ammunition hidden in a bush.
Beckett pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear. He also admitted to having ammunition without a certificate. He received a sentence of five years and seven months.
Briscoe was found guilty of possessing a prohibited weapon and ammunition. He was sentenced to five years in prison. A police spokesperson emphasized the dangers of weapons in the wrong hands.
