Prepare for potential travel disruptions as a widespread snow event threatens numerous cities across England and Wales starting next Tuesday.
Maps show snow starting around 6 AM on February 18. The snow will likely get heavier all day. It could pile up the most around 6 PM. Thirty-four cities in England face snowfall, including Birmingham and Bradford. Brighton and Hove, Cambridge, and Canterbury are also on the list.
Chelmsford, Chichester, and Colchester could see snow too. Coventry, Derby, and Doncaster face possible snowfall. Durham, Ely, and Gloucester are also at risk. Hereford, Hull, and Leeds may get snow. Leicester and Lichfield also could get hit. Lincoln and London are on the list, along with Newcastle and Norwich. Nottingham, Peterborough, and Ripon may see snow and Sheffield and Southend-on-Sea should be ready.
Sunderland, Wakefield, and Westminster are on the list. Wolverhampton, Worcester, and York complete it. The Met Office forecast supports these maps. The forecast covers February 9 to February 18.
High pressure will be northeast of the UK. Easterly winds will make it feel colder. Temperatures will often drop below average. Rain is possible in southern areas at first and sleet or snow showers could then appear. Many places might stay dry, but Atlantic fronts could bring snow later.
Overnight frost is likely when skies are clear. The Met Office update came February 4, 2025 at 2 PM. They predicted snow within days.
