A recent survey reveals that over 25% of West Midlands residents feel unsafe at home, raising concerns about local safety and community well-being.
Out of those surveyed, 1,198 felt unsafe, and 438 felt very unsafe. While some felt safe, a significant number chose a neutral option, indicating mixed feelings about their safety.
The draft Police and Crime Plan for 2025-2029 aims to address these concerns. It focuses on issues like neighbourhood policing, knife crime, and domestic abuse. The final version of the plan is due by March 31.
Most respondents were from Birmingham, with 2,575 participating. When asked about their contact with the police, responses were nearly split.
Of those who had contacted the police, many reported mixed experiences. While some felt positive, others had negative encounters.
Interestingly, 3,103 people said they didn’t engage with other areas, while 2,725 did. Among those who ventured out, feelings of safety varied widely.
