Alan Warwick Butchers on Bearwood Road will close on February 15, leaving locals disappointed. The shop was a beloved part of the community, known for quality meats.
Bearwood: Fans of a popular butcher shop are sad. Alan Warwick Butchers on Bearwood Road is closing on February 15.
A sign on the window announced the closure, but no reason was given. This shop was part of a Black Country chain and offered quality English meats.
They sold prime cuts of beef, lamb, pork, and poultry. Locals shared their reactions on a Facebook neighborhood site after hearing the news.
One local, Philip Bowerman, said, “Use it or lose it. If we prefer supermarkets, we can’t complain.”
Janet Colin added, “Now there’s no proper butchers in Bearwood, just supermarkets. It’s killing the town.”
Karen James mentioned empty stalls in Bearwood Market, expressing a desire for a butcher there. She also highlighted a lovely fruit and veg stall.
Jane Woodward lamented, “Another good shop gone from Bearwood High Street. How many more will close?”
She noted that the pandemic hurt businesses, and the area has struggled since Safeway closed. The fire in the market also contributed to the decline.
