A Birmingham activist says a rubbish-strewn street feels like climbing Everest after three years of complaints to the council
He filmed himself trying to walk through piles of rubbish. It looked like a scene from a disaster movie. There were heaps of litter, old furniture, and even a car bumper.
To top it off, a burnt-out caravan was parked on the side. Gerry often shares his concerns on social media. He reported the mess to the Birmingham City Council year after year, but no action has been taken.
In a light-hearted post, he joked about his “Everest attempt” while navigating the trash. When asked about the situation, Councillor Majid Mahmood acknowledged the problem.
He mentioned that clean-up crews had visited but faced challenges due to parked cars blocking access. The council is working with the police to tackle the issue.
Cllr Mahmood emphasized the need for everyone to help keep the area clean. He encouraged residents to use recycling centers instead of dumping waste on the streets.
For those who can’t reach these centers, the council offers free Mobile Waste Centres. It’s a community effort, and they want to prosecute those who fly-tip.
