Cops went to an old building in Newcastle. Someone worried about a person inside alerted them. This happened this morning.

The building is Angel Heights, on Westgate Road. It opened back in 1925. Nurses at a nearby hospital used it first. Later, it housed asylum seekers in the early 2000s. It’s been empty and falling apart lately.

The city approved plans to fix it last October. They plan to make 57 flats there. Twelve will be two-story apartments. A developer, Jomast, will do the project.

They’ll construct apartments behind the building too. Cops visited before due to vandalism. Last April, people threw things from the windows. Friday, police were there again.

They received reports about someone inside. Police cars, even the Marine Unit, were present. A Northumbria Police person spoke about it. They got a call about a person. It was for a disused Westgate Road building.

Officers looked around the building thoroughly. They did not find anyone inside. The report was made with good intentions. Police reminded everyone trespassing is illegal. The building is unsafe now. It poses a serious safety risk. People should not enter it.
