The police are closing their Brierley Hill base. It’s on Bank Street. They are moving to a newer place in Dudley.

The current building isn’t good anymore, police say. A local councillor, Adam Davies, disagrees. He thinks Dudley is too far.

Davies spoke at a Brierley Hill meeting. He said people worry about the station closing, fearing for their safety. Reporting crimes could become harder.

Inspector Steven Crowe spoke, too. He said Dudley police respond very fast, stating they don’t need a station to work well now.

They use laptops and radios, and officers respond to calls quickly. Having a station isn’t as vital anymore.

Neighborhood officers will still be in Brierley Hill. Response officers will use smaller, local bases where they grab their gear and go.

Davies sees a problem with this plan: neighborhood teams in wards, response officers elsewhere. He thinks this makes things harder. Davies said police will have less presence and reportedly spend less time in Brierley Hill, adding that it is harder to reach them.
