Chelmsley Wood: Exciting news for locals! Plans are in motion to build around 200 affordable homes on the old Simon Digby school site. This area has been waiting for development for years.

Solihull Council has picked Vistry Group as the developer for this project. They’ve just submitted a full planning application for 177 homes near Henbury Drive. New designs are included, and they look promising!

According to the design statement, this project will not only provide affordable housing but also improve the landscape and create play spaces. The site is mostly rough grassland now, but it has great potential.

The proposal aims to help local families, with 80 homes featuring three or four bedrooms. Plus, there will be a play area right at the entrance. Sounds like a great addition for the community!

In 2021, a masterplan was shared, showing what the site could look like. The West Midlands Combined Authority even contributed nearly £3 million to support this project.

Solihull Council’s leader, Councillor Ian Courts, believes these homes will create a vibrant community in Chelmsley Wood. West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker also emphasized the need for affordable housing that locals can truly afford.

A consultation is currently open, and residents can share their views until February 14. If you want to check out the plans, just search for application PL/2024/02981/PPFL on the Solihull Council website.
