Wednesbury: Families in the West Midlands are getting help with high energy bills. An improvement plan is set to make homes warmer and more efficient.

Around 10,000 homes will receive upgrades like insulation, solar panels, and new heating systems. This will help residents save money on their energy costs.

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker is excited about the £167 million energy efficiency fund from the Government. He believes improving homes is a top priority.

Parker visited Friar Park to meet residents. Many homes there were built between the World Wars and need upgrades. One resident, Holly Farmer, shared her experience.

Holly has two kids and has lived in her three-bedroom house for three years. She noticed a big difference after getting loft insulation and new fans.

Before the upgrades, her home lost a lot of heat. Now, she doesn’t need to turn on the heating as much. She’s hopeful about the changes and how they will help her family.

Another resident, Sasha Beckford, is also feeling the pressure of rising energy costs. Her bills have quadrupled since 2022. She’s relieved to hear about the new plan.

Parker mentioned that work is already happening on many homes. He aims to retrofit 200 homes in the area, potentially cutting bills by 50%.

With the new funding, they plan to help even more families. This initiative not only aims to lower bills but also to create job opportunities for young people in the community.
