The Core Theatre in Solihull faces delays in reopening due to ongoing repairs, affecting scheduled performances and future events.
Solihull: The reopening of The Core Theatre has hit a snag. It’s been closed for over a year due to crumbling concrete, known as RAAC. This issue was found during a routine inspection last September.
Last month, Coun Wazma Qais said they aimed to reopen by the end of April. But this week, she updated that there are still some issues to resolve. Now, they’re looking at a new opening date in May 2025.
When it reopens, there will be a special variety show hosted by the Mayor for charity. This delay allows contractors to finish the roof repairs and make necessary upgrades to the stage.
Two performances planned for late April have been canceled, and the council is working on alternative arrangements with the performers. They will reach out to affected customers soon.
Once open, The Core will host tribute acts, musicals, and comedy shows again. Before it closed, people had to travel to Bromsgrove’s Artrix Theatre for performances, but that lease ended last March.
While The Core Theatre is closed, the rest of the building, including the library and café, remains open. The RAAC issue has affected many public buildings across the UK, leading to widespread closures.
