Birmingham: A bus ride turned a bit scary for some folks. Passengers on the number 14 bus had to get off after someone thought they saw smoke. It happened on a Friday afternoon while heading into the city.

A mum and her five-year-old daughter were sitting at the back. She noticed something that looked like smoke coming from the seats. She quickly told the driver and other passengers.

The driver checked it out and found what seemed like smoke from the engine. So, he evacuated about 25 passengers. They all got off safely, and the bus was taken away. National Express later said there was no fire risk at all.

The mum, who didn’t want to be named, shared her experience. She said the seat felt hot and smelled like something burning. She was really worried and glad she spoke up.

After everyone got off, they saw some steam coming from the back of the bus. The driver had to drive off, and more steam came out. The mum had to catch two more buses to get to her partner’s place in Walsall. She definitely avoided the back seat after that!

National Express explained that the smoke was actually steam from a coolant leak. They assured everyone there was no fire risk and apologized for the scare.
