Former pub in North Tyneside faces potential redevelopment into a retail and residential space, pending council approval.
Prophecy Group Ltd. wants to redo the Grey Horse pub. It is on Front Street in Camperdown. They want three shops. Six flats will go above and in the attic.
Eight more flats would be built behind. A takeaway place will stay as it is. Locals have issues with these plans. The council’s report also found problems.
The local group doesn’t want flats. They sent a letter to the council. They think the pub should be demolished and rebuilt. It should become houses, not flats. They believe there are already enough flats nearby.
Locals worry the site is too small. They think it will cause more traffic. Capita also made a report for the council. They said the plans overdevelop the site. The design doesn’t improve the area.
The council said trash trucks have no space. Trucks would block a busy road. This road has double yellow lines.
The developer offered money to help. It was almost £100,000 for improvements. These improvements were for ecology and roads. Councillors will vote on February 12 at 6pm. They will meet at the Cobalt HQ.
