Plans are underway to transform the closed Cottage Springs pub in Wednesbury into office space, following its closure in 2022 due to financial struggles.
This pub, once part of Holden’s, dates back to the 18th century. It was listed for sale at £265,000 last year. Rising costs and declining business led to its closure. The new plan includes a side and rear extension for office space.
Cottage Springs isn’t the only former pub in Wednesbury facing changes. Plans to convert the nearby Forge Tavern into an eight-bed house have resurfaced. Previous ideas for a community center and Islamic tuition center were turned down by Sandwell Council.
The local council has rejected several proposals to revive the old pub over the years. Two attempts to turn it into an Islamic tuition center were denied due to parking concerns.
Plans for a community center were also rejected in 2022 and May 2024. An earlier approval to convert it into a house of multiple occupation (HMO) was never acted upon, so it has been resubmitted after the original permission expired.
