The Met Office has issued a warning for severe winds, predicting a powerful storm to hit the UK this week
London: The Met Office just dropped a serious weather alert. They’re saying we might see the strongest winds of winter this week. It’s looking pretty intense.
They shared a map on Twitter, now called X, showing a powerful jet stream forming over the North Atlantic. This could lead to some wild weather.
By Friday, expect wet and windy conditions. They’re warning us about possible disruptions. So, keep an eye on the forecast.
The map shows arctic and tropical air mixing, creating a strong temperature contrast. This fuels the jet stream, making it even more powerful.
Chris Almond, the Deputy Chief Meteorologist, mentioned that a deep low pressure is coming. It could bring some nasty weather from Friday into Saturday.
Winds will start picking up on Thursday night, with the worst gusts hitting Northern Ireland and western Scotland on Friday. Heavy rain is also on the way.
They’ve issued a Yellow weather warning for wind. With a few days to go, they’ll keep updating the forecast, so stay tuned.
Chris explained that as the low pressure develops over the Atlantic, it will strengthen rapidly. This is called ‘explosive cyclogenesis’ and is expected to happen on Thursday.
