The Met Office alerts the UK about a severe weather change, predicting strong winds and a bitter chill next week
London: The Met Office is sounding the alarm about a big weather change. They say it could be the worst winter weather we’ve seen so far. Strong winds are expected to hit next week, bringing a bitter chill.
They’re warning everyone to prepare for stormy conditions. Disruptive weather is likely, especially with the strongest winds of the season on the way. A powerful Jet Stream is coming in, and it’s going to shake things up.
Right now, there are eight cold health alerts in place. These are for areas like the North East, North West, and East of England. Yorkshire, the Humber, and parts of the Midlands are also included, along with London.
Forecasters are concerned about the impact on health services. Vulnerable people might need more healthcare, and there’s a greater risk to their safety. Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk mentioned that today will be cloudy across much of England and Wales.
There might be some drizzle and even a few snow grains. The best sunshine will be in the north and east of Scotland. But out west, a cold front is bringing rain to Northern Ireland.
Temperatures are going to feel pretty chilly. As we move through Sunday, not much will change. A band of rain will keep moving east, and in the south, we could see frost and fog on Monday morning.
Looking ahead to February, the Met Office says it might stay unsettled and mild at first. Expect rain, showers, and strong winds, but there will be some brighter and cooler moments too. By mid-month, southern areas might see drier spells, but watch out for fog and frost at night.
