A group of masked youths tried to steal a motorbike in Sutton Coldfield while its owner was getting a haircut. The incident was caught on CCTV.
The theft attempt occurred between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM. The owner, an 18-year-old support worker, was at Madrid Cutz. Four youths on two motorbikes approached his Benelli motorbike parked nearby.
All four wore black balaclavas. Three were dressed in black, while one wore a grey top. Two of them went up to the parked bike. One checked the front wheel, while another sat on the seat and kicked the handlebar.
They tried to push the bike away as cars passed by. After a few attempts, they abandoned the bike, letting it fall on its side. The group then jumped on their waiting motorbikes and rode off towards Jockey Road.
When the owner returned, he found two people helping to lift his bike. They showed him the CCTV footage from a nearby restaurant. The owner was upset to see the damage done to his bike.
He said, “I just got my haircut and found two guys by my bike. They helped me pick it up and showed me the footage.” He was frustrated because the thieves had damaged the paint and broken the lock.
The owner had just gotten the bike a month ago after his birthday. He mentioned it was nearly new, with only 1,000 miles on it. He was from Leicester but worked in Birmingham on weekends.
He explained, “I was getting ready for work in Handsworth. The bike had to be towed back to Leicester that night.” He had a disc lock on the bike, but it could still be damaged during a theft attempt. West Midlands Police have been contacted for a statement.
