Lloyds Banking Group plans to close four branches in Bristol as part of a larger cost-cutting initiative affecting 136 locations across the UK.
The branches in Bristol include Lloyds in Clifton, Patchway, and Bishopsworth. Halifax will close its Kingswood branch.
This decision follows a recent change allowing customers to use any Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branch for in-person banking. All affected employees will be offered jobs at other locations.
After the closures, Lloyds will have 386 branches, Halifax will have 281, and Bank of Scotland will have 90. The shift is due to more customers using mobile banking instead of visiting branches.
Lloyds reported a 48% drop in transactions at these branches over the last five years. A spokesperson mentioned that over 20 million customers now use their apps for banking.
Customers can also access banking through telephone services, community bankers, and over 11,000 Post Office branches.
