Oldbury: A learner driver had a wild encounter with the police. Aliarab Mohammed was caught after a high-speed chase. He panicked when officers tried to pull him over.

He sped away, even trying to escape down a cul-de-sac. But one officer tripped him up, ending the chase. Mohammed, 22, had no ‘L’ plates and was driving dangerously.

On July 11, police were conducting a road safety operation. An officer spotted Mohammed speeding in his silver Kia Soul. When the officer activated his lights, Mohammed took off.

He drove recklessly, hitting a Skoda and speeding at 70mph in a 40mph zone. Other drivers had to brake sharply to avoid him.

Eventually, he reached 80mph before running into a cul-de-sac. He jumped out of the car but was caught by the police. They found cannabis and two snooker balls in socks, which he claimed were for self-defense.

In court, it was revealed that Mohammed had a history of drug possession. His lawyer said he panicked but had stayed out of trouble for five years.

Mohammed helps care for his mother, who has serious health issues. The judge noted his potential but condemned his reckless driving.

He was sentenced to 10 months in jail and received a 23-month driving ban. The judge emphasized the dangers of his actions on the road.
