Hotel staff are learning how to identify signs of child trafficking to help protect vulnerable youth.
The police are encouraging staff to pay attention to odd behaviors. For example, last-minute bookings or guests without luggage can be red flags. Paying in cash or asking for rooms near exits is also suspicious.
Detective Sergeant Dan Lydster mentioned that they’re working closely with local hotels. They even send cadets, who are young volunteers, to help test hotel staff. The cadets act out warning signs to see if the hotel staff notice.
If staff spot something concerning, they’re encouraged to report it. The police respond quickly to these reports. They want potential traffickers to know that hotel staff are alert and ready to act.
So, if you’re in the hotel business, keep an eye out for these signs. It could make a big difference in protecting vulnerable kids.
