Exciting new images show the upcoming changes in Temple Quarter, Bristol, including a 22-storey student accommodation block and more developments.
Bristol: Big changes are coming to the Temple Quarter area. Planners are deciding on a new student accommodation block near Temple Meads station. The developers, Cubex, just shared some cool images of what the area will look like.
The new 22-storey building will house 531 students. It’s part of a larger transformation in the area. The images show how this building will fit in with other planned developments. It’s the first time we’re seeing the whole picture of Temple Quarter.
The view from the images shows recognizable landmarks, like the spire of St Mary Redcliffe Church. It’s exciting to see how the area will change. Cubex wants to show that their building won’t look out of place among other tall structures.
Historic England usually objects to tall buildings near historic sites. But they’re okay with this one since it’s part of a bigger plan. There’s another development nearby that will have four buildings up to 17 storeys high, already approved last year.
The River Avon runs behind the new student accommodation. It’s hard to see now with all the tall buildings planned. This area used to be cut off by the railway line, but new bridges are making it more accessible.
Earlier this year, developers revealed plans for hundreds of new homes and offices in the area. This £350 million project is part of the Temple Quarter regeneration scheme. The University of Bristol is also building a new campus nearby.
Commuters can already see the new buildings taking shape. The university campus will be right next to the student accommodation. It’s all coming together, and it’s going to be quite a sight.
Planning officers are recommending approval for Cubex’s project. The development director is excited about the potential benefits. It aims to improve flood defenses and create public spaces.
Historic England acknowledges the impact of the new buildings but won’t object. They believe the area is about to change significantly. However, they also want a masterplan to guide future developments.
