Knowle: A big retirement village with 170 care units is in the works. The Solihull Council planning committee will decide on it next week.

The developer, C Coombs & Senior Living Ltd, wants to replace Stripes Hill farmhouse on a 10-acre site. The new homes will cater to people over 65. Inspired Villages plans to run the site, offering bungalows, cottages, and apartments.

The design aims to meet residents’ care needs and help them age in place. There will be a village square for community events, making it a lively spot for residents and visitors.

Facilities will include a café, restaurant, meeting spaces, a swimming pool, and a gym. Locals can also join the fitness areas with a membership.

Plans also feature a horticultural garden, community orchard, and wildlife areas. The application was first submitted in February 2023, with impressive designs included.

The proposal seeks full planning approval for 48 care units and outline permission for 122 more. Solihull Council officers recommend approval, despite 21 objections from locals.

Concerns include privacy issues and traffic congestion. However, planning officers note a strong need for elderly accommodation in the area.

Even though the site is in the green belt, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. The committee will meet on February 5 at 6 PM, and the public can attend or watch online.
