A new £2 community pantry in Bloxwich offers affordable essentials for everyone, helping ease the cost of living crisis with no eligibility criteria.
Bloxwich: A new community pantry has opened to help people access affordable essentials. Anyone can use it, and you only need a £2 annual membership.
You can find the pantry inside the Stan Ball Centre on Abbotts Street. This is the first of its kind in the area, with three more planned to open in 2025.
Future locations include Wilkes Avenue in Bentley, the Town Hall in Darlaston, and a spot in Blakenall that’s still being decided. Each pantry will cater to local needs.
Eleanor Boycott, Chief Executive of Bloxwich Community Partnership, shared that this initiative aims to tackle food poverty. Shopping here helps people save money for other essentials.
Walsall Council has invested £200,000 into this project, which is mainly run by volunteers. Community groups in the borough can apply to set up similar services until February 14, 2025.
Council leader Garry Perry emphasized the importance of dignity in support. He believes everyone deserves access to affordable food and essentials without feeling like they’re getting a handout.
