London: Dog owners in England are getting some important advice. The British Veterinary Association is warning folks about walking their dogs in January or February. It’s chilly out there!

They suggest wiping your dog’s paws and belly after snowy walks. This helps remove any ice or salt that could be harmful. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your furry friend.

Some dogs love the snow, but others can’t handle the cold. Keep an eye on your pup’s paws for cracks or redness. Grit and rock salt can be really toxic if ingested.

Also, be careful with antifreeze. It’s super toxic for pets, even in small amounts. Make sure to store it safely and clean up any spills right away.

BVA President Justine Shotton reminds us that our pets need warmth too. They should have a cozy spot to retreat to when it’s cold outside. While they still need exercise, we should protect them from the chill.

If your dog is small or has a thin coat, consider getting them a coat. You might need to shorten walks or skip them altogether if it’s really cold.
