Solihull: Next week, planners will decide on a car port application. The applicant is the partner of a councillor, which brings extra attention to the case.

Solihull Council handles many planning applications each month. Most are decided by planning officers. However, big or controversial applications go to the planning committee.

This car port application at Cuttle Pool Farm in Temple Balsall has been called in for review. The committee meeting will happen next week to ensure everything is transparent.

The application is linked to John Courtenay, the partner of former mayor Diana Holl-Allen. Planning officers say the car port meets the rules for permitted development.

They note the car port is 6.5m by 6.2m, located beside the house, and 2m from the boundary. It won’t be taller than 4m. Although near a listed building, it’s not part of that property.

John Courtenay supported Coun Allen during her mayoral term last year. The planning committee meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Civic Suite at 6pm on February 5.

You can also watch the meeting live on the council’s website. For more details, search for application PL/2024/02905/CLOPUD on the Solihull planning site.
