Act On Energy reports thousands seek help monthly as West Midlands plans energy upgrades for homes, aiming to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
West Midlands: An energy charity is helping many people struggling with their bills. Act On Energy receives thousands of calls each month from those in need.
Mayor Richard Parker has announced a plan to upgrade 10,000 homes in the area. This will make homes more energy efficient and help cut costs for residents.
The £167 million fund will improve older homes with insulation, new doors, windows, and solar panels. Act On Energy estimates around 20,000 people seek their support each year.
During the announcement in Friar Park, Peter Forrest from Act On Energy shared concerns about the high demand for help. He noted that many residents struggle to pay their fuel bills.
Forrest explained that many homes lose heat due to poor insulation. The new scheme aims to provide long-term support, not just for this winter but for years to come.
Councillor Peter Hughes emphasized the importance of tackling fuel poverty and climate change. He believes making homes more energy efficient will greatly assist local residents.
