A new engineering hub in Bristol has opened, creating 100 jobs and offering placements for engineering students to support the UK’s nuclear submarine patrols.
Bristol: A new engineering hub has opened to support the UK’s nuclear submarines. This hub, called the Submarine Availability Support Hub (SASH), has created 100 jobs. It will also offer placements for engineering students.
The Ministry of Defence says this facility will help the Defence Nuclear Enterprise work better with Babcock and other contractors. They will use advanced digital tools and combine their technical skills.
Maria Eagle MP, the Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, opened the SASH this week. She mentioned it was a privilege to meet both civilian colleagues and Navy personnel.
She added that this investment shows the government’s commitment to using defense as a growth engine. The new hub will enhance the UK’s nuclear deterrent and support national security.
Sir Chris Gardner, CEO of the Submarine Delivery Agency, said the hub will help the Royal Navy’s submarine operations. It will also provide a space for joint work and develop future talent through student placements.
The SASH will support operations at Clyde in Scotland and Devonport in Plymouth, where the Royal Navy’s submarines are based.
