Bristol: A park in Bristol was renamed to honor Eddie King, a teenager who was fatally stabbed. The park, now called Eddie King Park, reopened on what would have been his 21st birthday.

Eddie was just 19 when he was attacked on Grosvenor Road in July 2023. His family wanted to rename the road, but that didn’t work out. So, they reached out to local councillors, and Tim Wye suggested renaming the park instead.

Eddie’s mom, Irene, shared her feelings during the opening. She said it was tough to find the right words, especially since they should have been celebrating his birthday. She remembered how much Eddie loved birthdays and how excited he would have been.

Irene spoke about the park being a special place for Eddie. It was where he learned to ride a bike, make friends, and play sports. She expressed gratitude for the park being named after him, even though it was bittersweet.

She emphasized that this tribute is more than just a name. It’s about the memories and the love that Eddie shared with everyone. Despite their pain, they want to focus on his kind heart and vibrant spirit.

Irene also mentioned the importance of love and community. She believes that even in tough times, the love surrounding them helps them keep going. They trust that justice will be served for Eddie.

Recently, three men were charged with his murder, and a trial is set for October 6. The family hopes to fill the park with color and joy, keeping Eddie’s light alive in their hearts.
