A Bristol park will honor Eddie King, a teen fatally stabbed, with a name change to keep his memory alive for family and friends.
They initially wanted to rename Grosvenor Road, but that didn’t work out. So, they met with local officials, and a park renaming was suggested. Luckily, the park was already set for some upgrades.
Eddie’s family submitted a request to change the park’s name. After many discussions with local residents and officials, they finally got the green light in December 2024.
Eddie’s mom, Irene, shared how much this means to them. She said it’s a way to keep his spirit alive. The park holds many memories for Eddie, where he learned to ride a bike and make friends.
Irene expressed how bittersweet it is. They should be celebrating his 21st birthday, but instead, they’re honoring his memory. She emphasized the importance of love and kindness, especially in tough times.
The park will be renamed Eddie King Park. It opens on January 21, the day he would have turned 21. Eddie was just 19 when he was tragically stabbed on Grosvenor Road.
Three individuals have been charged with his murder, and the trial is set for October 6. Eddie’s family hopes this park will be a place of healing and remembrance for everyone who knew him.
