Jason Savage, a Birmingham man, was convicted for planning a mosque attack. He communicated with an undercover officer, expressing intentions to die in the act.
He was upset with a Salafi cleric who criticized Islamist extremism. Savage filmed the locations and routes for his attack. He even researched violent methods and watched extremist videos.
Just days before his arrest, he sent alarming messages to a friend, who was actually an undercover officer. He said, “I will see you in Paradise,” hinting he expected to die in the attack.
Police arrested him on March 14 last year, just three days after he scouted the sites. They gathered enough evidence to charge him under the Terrorism Act.
Savage had a history of extremist views, converting to Islam in 2010. He had previously been arrested for similar offenses. Authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
