Birmingham: A rapist named Ogochukwu Diayi has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. This comes after a brave teenager stepped up to share her story.

Diayi, 38, from Great Barr, faced serious charges, including multiple counts of rape and assault. He denied everything but was found guilty at trial.

The court heard about the horrific acts he committed against the young girl. The charges included five counts of rape and threats to kill.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on January 21. Along with his prison time, he received a restraining order and must register as a sex offender.

The investigation started after an anonymous tip-off about the abuse in October 2023. Police quickly identified Diayi and arrested him the same day.

Thanks to the victim’s brave testimony, the police were able to build a strong case against him. Det Con Amelia Rose praised the victim’s courage throughout the process.

She emphasized that anyone who has suffered abuse should come forward. The police are there to support and believe them.
