Two apprentices are over the moon after landing roles in Birmingham’s biggest show, working alongside TV star Alison Hammond and learning invaluable skills.
They’re working as tech swings, which means they help with the technical side of the show. Both are on 18-month apprenticeships and are learning loads. They got these roles after finishing a three-month bootcamp at Solihull College.
This bootcamp was designed with the Hippodrome to help young folks get into creative jobs. Tegan, 20, shared how she’s been shadowing the tech team. She’s even stepping in when someone is sick.
She said, “I can’t believe I’m doing this! It’s been so much fun.” Tegan always loved theatre but thought she’d go into costume design. The bootcamp opened her eyes to other roles.
Laura, 25, is also thrilled. She’s always been into live events and is learning from the best at the Hippodrome. She’s picking up skills in electrics and stage management.
Both apprentices feel lucky to be part of such a great team. They’re excited about where this journey will take them. The West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker, praised the program. He believes it’s vital to invest in young talent for the future.
