Bristol: On a chilly evening, The Clifton was buzzing. Everyone seemed to be enjoying drinks. I even saw someone ordering tequila shots before 6 PM.

With pints under £5, who could resist? The pub offers great cocktail deals too. Two cocktails for £15 from 4 PM to 7 PM is a steal. Plus, hospitality workers get 20% off on Sundays.

This pub reopened in July 2023 under new owners. They’re known for their award-winning gastropubs in Wales. Sarah and Tom run The Clifton, along with the popular Heathcock in Cardiff.

Their secret? They keep the pub vibe while serving top-notch food. You’ll find real ales, cozy bar stools, and even dog biscuits on the bar. There’s a spacious restaurant and an open kitchen too.

I’ve dined at The Clifton a few times. Their Sunday roasts are fantastic! The menu changes daily, featuring dishes like steak and ale pie and buttermilk pudding.

If you just want a pint or a glass of wine, that’s cool too. The Clifton feels like a local pub, not just a fancy restaurant.

They have a solid selection of beers and ciders. I tried the Wye Valley HPA for £4.60. Other options included St Austell Tribute and a hazy cider.

You can also find Guinness, Camden Hells, and more on tap. The blackboard lists wines and classic cocktails like Negroni and Martini.

For those sticking to ‘dry’ January, there are soft drinks too. But at £4.30 for a bottle of Fentimans Rose Lemonade, you might want to go for the hard stuff instead!

The Clifton is located at 16 Regent Street, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 4HG.
