A £2 million project to upgrade a bus junction in Bristol will start next month and is expected to take nine months to complete, improving local transport.
They’re changing the layout so more buses can access the site. Right now, only the number 9 bus can get in. The plan is to widen and reconfigure the junction, making it easier for everyone.
Construction begins on February 17. They’ll also add a new pedestrian crossing and resurface the area. Plus, there will be more signs to help people navigate.
Once the work is done, the number 9 service could expand, improving connections from the city center to Avonmouth. Four new bus services might also stop there, including routes to Cribbs Causeway and Southmead Hospital.
Councillor Ed Plowden from the Bristol City Council is excited about these changes. He believes this will make the Portway Park & Ride a better transport hub for everyone. It’ll work well with the new railway station that opened last year.
During the nine months of construction, the A4 Portway will stay open, but expect some delays due to temporary traffic lights. The number 9 bus will have new stops while the work is happening.
They’ll need to remove seven trees and relocate three, but don’t worry—13 new trees will be planted. This project is funded by the UK Government, aiming to enhance local transport options for everyone.
